Barbarossa 1941-The Southern Front

It’s early July 1941 inside the western border of Soviet Russia.  Field Marshal Gerd Von Rundstedt and his Southern front has driven Lieutenant General M.P. Kirponos’ Southwest front out of Poland causing devastating casualties on the unprepared Soviet forces.  Operation Barbarossa is succeeding for the German army as planned.  Soon, Russia’s ability to fight will be destroyed and the war in the east will be over.

In this Chain of Command series of five battles the forces of the German army will attempt to drive deep into the oil rich heartland of the southern Soviet Union.  The German army supported by obscure Hungarian forces (that some historians would even say were never involved in fighting) will face a determined Russian army.

Battles will involve two to three platoons per side and represent only a tiny snapshot of a larger battle.

Each player will be given an allocation of points to select support options with the exception of tanks and anti- tank guns.  These will be (possibly frustratingly) drawn randomly from a pool of available equipment.  This pool is finite and destroyed tanks are lost for the campaign.

Additionally fights will not always be fair.  In true Irregular(s) fashion players may not always be available.  Their lack of appropriate priorities ( kids? jobs? Hogwash) may result in part of an army not being available.  Alas, that’s war.
